Background 背景

XY graduated with an animation master degree from Coventry University, UK. Now she’s a freelancer artist based in Shanghai, her works are full of fantastic new ideas, rich in ink colors, including illustration, space creation, sculpture, digital interaction, public art and so on. Her works were collected by the British Automobile Museum, held a solo exhibition in Singapore, participated in several group exhibitions, and started her art career in China. Now known as a pop artist. 

XY聂晓宇毕业于英文考文垂大学动画硕士学位，现居上海。她现在是一名长居上海的自由艺术家，她的作品设计领域拓展至装置艺术、插画、空间营造、雕塑、数字交互和公共艺术等。她的作品具有充满奇思妙想的新生主义，浓墨重彩，画风怪诞叛逆。她的作品被英国汽车博物馆收藏，在新加坡举办了个展，参加了几次群展，在国内也开始了她的艺术生涯。现在被称为了潮流艺术家。

Residency Experience 驻地经历

XY's artworks are full of whimsy ideas. From the use of strong color and the grotesque and rebellious avant-garde style, you may see strong influence of cyberpunk on her artistic expression, as well as an ingenious integration of American retro style. Speaking of cyberpunk, people instantly think of a highly technologically advanced future world, towering modern buildings, ubiquitous electronic screens, flying vehicles shuttling between buildings, electronic parts replacing human organs... With the rapid advancement of science and technology, the once sci-fi world seems to be closer and closer to real possibility. XY's residency work at No Name, Future Welcome is inspired by such a world. 

XY 的作品充满奇思妙想，从浓烈的用色和怪诞叛逆的前卫画风中，能看到赛博朋克对她的强烈影响，同时亦融合了的美式复古风格。提起赛博朋克，人们一定会想到科技高度发达的未来世界，高耸的摩登大厦、无处不在的电子屏幕、穿梭在楼宇间的飞行器、各种替换人体器官的电子零件… 而随着科技的飞速进步，那个曾经科幻的世界距离我们似乎越来越接近可能。XY 此次的驻地作品 Future Welcome 就是以这样一个世界为灵感所描绘。

“The residency at No Name Studio is my most focused experience of creating easel paintings since graduation.

The experience reminds me of the essence of painting.

For artists, the essence of painting is to express.

Yet painting has no way to achieve the overall reality of things, so it cannot compete with literature, unless it is not literary.

Things that come from one's heart will someday intercept someone else’s heart, and the latter deeply attracts me.

It is possible that everything we do is only training our mind and volition, which is useless. But no matter what, if it is not worth our action, its possible use would be unnecessary at all.

Human life is full of secularity, full of daydreams and sensory enjoyment. There is no need for us to mechanize the rare highlight moments. Since our life is nothing more than fleeting gas, let it emerge at least like a cloud floating in the sky instead of the heavy darkness shrouded in hellfire and runners."

“这次在 No Name Studio 的驻地集中创作是自毕业以来创作架上绘画最集中注意力的一次经历。

我想这次艺术驻地的体验更多的让我想到的是绘画的本质。

对于艺术家来说绘画的本质是因为想要表达。

而绘画没有办法达到事物的整体现实，因而无法同文学竞争，除非它不是文学性的。

出自一个人心灵的东西某天会截获另外一颗心灵，后者又深深的吸引我的心灵。

也许我们做的一切只不过是对于心灵和意志的训练，其本身毫无用处。但无论怎样，如果不值得我们动手动力，它可能有的那么一点用处也无必要了。

人类生活充斥着世俗性，白日梦和感官享受，无需我们把少有的闪光时刻机械化，既然我们的生命充其量不过是闪瞬即逝的气体，就让它至少像浮在高空的云朵般浮现，而不是笼罩在狱火和转轮上的浓重黑暗。”
